239.A Hard Worker
My dad was a coal miner. He worked himself to death!
I don't blame anyone, especially him! But I vowed after he passed away that I would rather die than become a physical laborer like him.
His work schedule was insane! He also worked overtime to get double pay. The only good thing about him working like a horse was that he never once in his life had to work out in a gym! His normal day was a work out!
When he became worn to a shadow, my mother worked on new ways to make it worth his while to get better. She made special lunches and even added vitamins for him to take each day. It worked like magic for a few months. My dad said two things about those pills; first that that worked wonders for his energy level and second that those pills were therefore worth their weight in gold!
But the boost of the vitamins was soon worn out and both of my parents began to worry about my father's health! Until he died, however, he kept working saying that he would rather die on the job as a man than retire to die another day as a woman!
He died from overexertion when he was 52!
Everyone of his friends said that he was the best of them, well worth his salt!
Years later someone asked if I would have liked to have my dad live longer. I only replied. "Would I ever!"
